YAMAHA CORPORATION (Headquarters: 10-1, Nakazawa-cho, Hamamatsu-shi, Shizuoka; President: Shuji Ito) announced today that it plans to establish Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc.(YCAS) to expand and strengthen its commercial audio business in Canada and the United States. The new company will be wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha's U.S.-based musical instrument sales company Yamaha Corporation of America(YCA, President: Yoshihiro Doi) located in Buena Park, California, and will take over the commercial audio sales of YCA. Official operations begin with the start of Yamaha fiscal year April 1,2006.
Yamaha has seen sales of its commercial audio products, mainly digital mixers, soar in Canada and the United States over the past several years, and has positioned its commercial audio systems operations as a worldwide growth business. YCA has been developing a commercial audio business in North America-the largest market for commercial audio products-as part of its operations, but has been considering a new framework for this business as it differs from the company's mainstay musical instruments business both in terms of customers and sales channel. By establishing YCAS, a company solely devoted to commercial audio operations, Yamaha intends to embark on a journey toward becoming an industry leader in client support, including staff training and engineering services. YCAS will distribute NEXO products to Canada market, which YCA has been distributing in the United States since 2005 through a business tie-up with NEXO S.A.(France).
The new company will be located on the same campus as YCA in Buena Park and will set up dedicated commercial audio technical and customer service departments as well as on-site R&D and product training centers. In addition, YCA plans to establish experimental facilities where tests and measurements of Yamaha and NEXO speakers can be performed. Commercial audio staff at Yamaha Canada Music Ltd.(President:Toru Saruya) will remain and develop Yamaha commercial audio business in Canada as YCAS staff.
