YAMAHA to Provide Multimedia Content for Mobile Phones in China:

“Music and Image” Series, a New SMAF Multimedia Service Begins via China United Telecommunications, a Leading Carrier in China –In Cooperation with Leading Service Provider Alllink

YAMAHA CORPORATION (with its head office in 10-1, Nakazawa-cho, Hamamatsu-shi, Shizuoka; President: Shuji Ito) has begun to provide a new service for mobile phones in China using Yamaha’s SMAF (Synthetic music Mobile Application Format), a mobile phone content standard. SMAF enables the simultaneous delivery of sound, graphics, and text.

The newly introduced service, named the “Sound and Image Clip” series, is being offered to customers via China United Telecommunications Corporation (China Unicom), a leading mobile phone carrier, and Alllink Co., Ltd. (Alllink), a leading service provider in China’s domestic market. YAMAHA worked together with China Unicom and Alllink for almost a year to develop the new moving image service based on the SMAF multimedia capabilities, and the service was officially inaugurated on December 16, 2004. Samsung, LG, and Motorola have already introduced mobile terminals capable of supporting the “Sound and Image Clip” series, and services are now available to customers.

Principal offerings in the “Sound and Image Clip” series are as follows:
(1) A service focused around karaoke content sourced from the music menu of the “King of Karaoke Contest”
(2) A greeting card service based on the “Quick Refreshment Music and Images” menu
(3) The “Music Picture Book,” a story library drawn from famous Chinese literature, movies, cartoons, and other sources
