Free content creation tool for adding excitement to mobile phone content

Spicing up the mobile phone platform:
Yamaha unveils "SMAF Entertainment"
website in China and provides free content creation tool

Yamaha Corporation (Head Office: 10-1, Nakazawa-cho, Hamamatsu-shi, Shizuoka; President: Shuji Ito) has unveiled a website in China (SMAF Entertainment) for providing multimedia content created using the Synthetic music Mobile Application Format (SMAF), a mobile phone content standard originated by Yamaha that enables the simultaneous delivery of sound, graphics, and text. Yamaha is using the site to introduce content that exploits the new functions of its MA-5 (YMU765) series sound chips and the Humanoid Voice* sound source, which enables the synthesis of human voices. In addition, Yamaha started providing a free content creation tool on the SMAF Entertainment website as well as on its SMAF Global website on Friday, December 3, 2004.*
Mr. Kazunari Fukaya, head of the marketing department in Yamaha’s semiconductor division, says that, “The provision of this free tool will enable professionals and general mobile phone users alike to easily create SMAF-based multimedia content and content that fully utilizes the capabilities of Humanoid Voice, and we expect this to further promote the spread of SMAF in China.”

*The Humanoid Voice sound source is a type of voice synthesis that simulates the sounds of the Chinese language through the input of letter strings (HV-Script) composed of Roman characters and control symbols for modifying the intonations of the words thus produced.
