On November 10, Yamaha Corporation (with its head office in 10-1, Nakazawa-cho, Hamamatsu-shi, Shizuoka; President: Shuji Ito) began providing a polyphonic ringtone download service for customers of Telstra Corporation Limited (headquartered in Melbourne, Australia), Australias leading telecommunications carrier.
In an Australian first, Telstra has joined with NTT DoCoMo to unveil its exclusive new i-mode(See Note 1) service which was launched in November 2004.
In line with the Australian launch of i-mode, Yamaha has launched Super Ringtone, a high-quality, polyphonic ringtone download service for users of Telstras i-mode services. Yamaha has been providing a ringtone download service for Vodafone subscribers in Australia since March 2004, and the new service through Telstra is expected to furnish opportunities for further expansion of Yamahas ringtone download services in Australia.
Mobile phone usage in Australia has grown strongly over the past decade, with Telstra continuing to be the leading provider of mobile telecommunication services in Australia in terms of mobile revenue and number of customers. With this expanded user base among Telstras customers, Yamaha plans to draw fully on the ringtone download service know-how it has accumulated in Japan to offer high-quality polyphonic ringtone content from a broad range of genres, including Australian hit tunes, TV program and movie theme songs, new U.K. and U.S. releases, and classical music.
