YAMAHA CORPORATION (head office: 10-1 Nakazawa-cho, Hamamatsu-shi, Shizuoka; president: Shuji Ito) have started providing Yamaha Super Ringtone!, a polyphone ringtone download service, through Wind Telecommunicazioni S.p.A. (Rome, Italy) on November 19, 2003. Wind Telecommunicazioni is one of Italy’s leading fixed line and mobile telecommunications carriers.
Wind Telecommunicazioni started offering i-modeTM service to its subscribers in Italy in November 2003 under license from NTT DoCoMo, Inc. To serve these customers, YAMAHA have offered Yamaha Super Ringtone!, a high-quality polyphonic ringtone download service, and will expand its business as the number of i-modeTM customers in Italy grows.
Italy has a population of 57.5 million, with a high proportion of mobile phone subscribers at 31.45 million. Wind Telecommunicazioni has 8.7 million subscribers, giving it 18.9% of the market.
Leveraging expertise developed in the Japanese market, YAMAHA will provide high-quality polyphonic ringtones from a range of genres, including Italian pop, the latest U.S. and British hits, movie soundtracks, jazz, and classical music.
i-mode and the i-mode logo are trade marks registered by NTT DoCoMo, Inc. in Japan and other countries.
