 |
| Background and Goals of Collaboration: |
 |
Finishing process robots are industrial robots that carry out specialized grinding and polishing operations, such as de-burring of metal and die casts, polishing of curved surfaces, and removal of paint or rust. Since the era when Yamaha Finetech was still a division of Yamaha Corp., the company has been accumulating know-how through the active implementation of process robots, for example in surface finishing of pianos and brass instruments. Yamaha Finetech now conducts built-to-order sales of integrated finishing systems that include both pre- and post-processes, and has an extensive track record of installations.
technicians and the shifting of manufacturing divisions into foreign countries. This has resulted in a marked lack of manpower in de-burring, polishing, and related operations, as well as a noticeable decrease in processing quality, which in turn has lead to an increase in potential requirements for robots in the finishing process field and other areas of factory automation (FA).
FANUC is the world's largest comprehensive manufacturer of FA equipment. In addition to offering CNC (computer numerical control) products that have received high international acclaim, the company develops and markets models for a wide range of applications in the robotics field, including spot welding, assembly, and transport, and boasts the world's greatest shipment record in the FA industry.
Given this backdrop, Yamaha Finetech, which has many years of experience in the finishing process field, and FANUC, which possesses superior robotics technologies that have been widely accepted as a global standard and which excels in production technologies as well, have been working together to promote development of a specialized finishing process model based on FANUC's intelligent robot products. Now, concurrent with the completion of the first product based on this model, the two companies have agreed to enter a new and advanced phase of business collaboration in the context of joint development.
Yamaha Finetech will act as the sole distributor for the specialized finishing process model jointly developed by the two companies, which will be sold under the name Finishing Model customized by YAMAHA.
In keeping with the details of the collaboration agreement, Yamaha Finetech and FANUC will continue to jointly promote technological development in the finishing process field, and at the same time will endeavor to increase the presence of both companies and to develop new business in this area.
