E-Plus's i-modeTM Service

Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka, March 15, 2002 - (JCN Newswire) - Yamaha Corp. is pleased to announce that it will provide a 16-note polyphonic cellular phone ringing tone download service to E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH & Co. KG., a German wireless operator which is part of Dutch company KPN Mobile to coincide with E-Plus's launch of the i-mode wireless internet service in Germany on March 16, 2002.
The start of Europe's first i-mode ringing tone service from Yamaha is a result of E-Plus's roll out of the i-mode wireless internet service. E-Plus is the third-largest mobile operator in Germany, offering mobile communications services to some 7.5 million people across Germany.
Yamaha will extend and strengthen its i-mode download ringing tone service across Europe by providing its ringing tone service to KPN Mobile in The Netherlands from April and to KPN Orange in Belgium from June to coincide with the both companies' introduction of i-mode.
The service, called YAMAHA Super-Ringtone!, will be the first i-mode ringing tone download service in Europe, and will be distributed to i-mode-capable handsets made by NEC Corp. that contain a 16-note sound chip from Yamaha. Three songs will be available for 2 euros ($1.75)a month. Yamaha expects to have 100,000 subscribers in the first year and sales of 1.2 million euros.
Yamaha is one of the leading providers of ringing melodies to cell phones, offering a choice of more than 6,000 songs to over 3.2 million subscribers in Japan by February 2002. The Company has decided to take advantage of this experience and its extensive archivement of song data to expand operations overseas with the distribution of high quality, polyphonic ringing tone melodies. |
