to Taiwan's KG Telecommunications

 |
Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka, November 30, 2001 (JCN) -- Yamaha Corp., the world's largest maker of musical instruments, is pleased to announce that it agreed with KG Telecommunications Co., Ltd. of Taiwan to distribute a range of single-tone ringing melodies for cellular phones to subscribers of KGT's igogo service from December 3rd.
Yamaha is one of the leading providers of ringing melodies to cell phones, offering a choice of more than 6,000 ringing tone melodies to over 3 million subscribers in Japan. The Company has decided to take advantage of this experience and its extensive archive of ringing melodies to expand operations overseas.
The agreement with KG Telecom, Taiwan's fourth-largest mobile phone company, is the second such agreement Yamaha has made in Taiwan and consolidates its position in a country where some 80 percent of the population have cell phones. In November 2000, Yamaha agreed to provide single-tone ringing melodies to Taiwan Cellular Corp., and then added four multi-tone melodies to the service in October 2001. About 100,000 people subscribe to these services.
KGT has about 4 million subscribers, a 22 percent market share of the Taiwanese cell phone marker. Chinese single-tone and multi-tone ringing melodies will be created and distributed by Yamaha's Taiwanese joint venture called Yamaha KHS Music Co., Ltd.
