Yamaha licenses BluetoothTM IP from NewLogic
Smoothing connections between musical instruments, sound and stage equipment for professionals and amateur enthusiasts |
 |
Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka; June 5th, 2001 - Yamaha Corporation, the world leader in electronic musical instruments, and NewLogic, a leading supplier of BluetoothTM intellectual property cores, today announced a licensing deal encompassing NewLogic's BOOST CoreTM and BOOST SoftwareTM IP products.
The deal, the terms of which were not disclosed, allows Yamaha to add BluetoothTM functionality to its IC products, and to manufacture BluetoothTM chips and chipsets.
"The features of BluetoothTM wireless technology make it a very attractive means of replacing cables in the musical instrument and accessory arena," said Hirokazu Kato, Director, Yamaha Corporation. "By adding BluetoothTM capability to our music products we will be able to open up a new world of wireless interconnection between musical instruments, sound and stage equipment," he added.
"The desire to add BluetoothTM functionality to a wide range of products is gaining momentum," said Hans-Peter Metzler, President and CEO of NewLogic. "We are delighted to be able to offer an embedded BluetoothTM solution which meets Yamaha's needs, both in terms of technical merit and guaranteed interoperability."
NewLogic's BOOSTTM IP family includes a BluetoothTM baseband processor, a full BluetoothTM software protocol stack and a BluetoothTM CMOS radio. These IP elements, when combined with a suitable microcontroller core, permit the implementation of a single chip BluetoothTM solution using industry standard CMOS process technologies.
BluetoothTM wireless technology is the new cordless standard adopted by more than 2,000 companies throughout the world to link portable devices to mobile phones and PCs. It has spurred an unprecedented enthusiasm within the PC and communications industries. Its promises of small size, low-cost and interoperability have fuelled a burst of new ideas and application possibilities. |
