Hamamatsu City,Shizuoka - May 12,2000 - Yamaha Corporation, the world's largest manufacturer of musical instruments and a leader in digital audio, today unveiled a series of internal and external CD ReWritable recorders that promises to set a new industry standard for speed and accuracy. The four models in the CRW8824 series will be launched worldwide between June and August 2000
Perfect for either professional or home use,the new CD-R/RW recorders are fast and powerful, writing a 650MB disc in about 10 minutes at 8X as well as rewriting at 8X a feature that dramatically improves ease of use.
"The great improvements we've made to performance place the CRW8824 drives among the most powerful storage devices currently available, not only for faster file backup, but also for faster random access rewrite," says Masami Takeuchi general manager of Yamaha's IT Sales and Marketing division,AV&IT Business Group. "The 8X rewrite data transfer rate is also very competitive with other high capacity removable storage devices," he notes.
The multi-functional CRW8824 is excellent for a wide variety of applications, spanning data backup through to the creation of music and multimedia CDs that involve storage of still and video images. As such, drives in the series may be used in all PC environments as the optimum external storage device. Media compatibility has been expanded to cover a wider range of users and ease of operation has been greatly enhanced.
The key to the extra speed and reliability Yamaha has built into the CRW8824 series is the incorporation of the company's Pure Phase Laser System in the drive optical head. This newly designed optical head is fast becoming an industry benchmark for CD-R/RW recorders as it eliminates the glare and reflections created on the disc surface during etching that occur with competing recording systems.
Yamaha's Pure Phase Laser System ensures that CRW8824 drives record more accurately. As a result the incidence of read error and read re-attempts on recorded discs is greatly reduced, rendering CRW8824 series drives extremely reliable.
"All users will be very impressed with the exceptional technology and incredible level of performance and reliability offered by the CRW8824 series," observed Yamaha's Takeuchi. "On the audio side, the new series achieves superb recording quality and pure sound reproduction. Audio extraction on the drives is also improved and more accurate. Yamaha initiated the CD recording industry and we will continue to launch products that excel."
Yamaha's new series of drives can write and rewrite a 650MB disc at 8X in approximately 10 minutes and extract high-fidelity WAVE data from a 74min. audio CD at 24X in about 4 minutes. The CRW8824 series drives also support reading and writing CD TEXT,to display text data such as song title or artist on an audio disc when a CD TEXT-compatible CD player is used.
CRW8824 series drives offer 140 msec average access time and a large 4 MB buffer memory, include ROPC for maximized media writing integrity, and use high performance 8X CD-R and CD-RW diskc for optimum recording. Though8X high performance CD-R blank diskc are widely available, leading manufacturers will soon be introducing a new generation of 8X CD ReWritable media.
The CRW8824 series comprises four models to meet all user needs. The internal CRW8824E using ATAPI (E-IDE) technology will be available in early June 2000,while the internal CRW8824S using Ultra SCSI (SCSI-3) technology will be introduced in late June 2000. The external CRW8824SX incorporating Ultra SCSI technology and the external CRW8824IX using IEEE 1394 Firewire technology will be available in late August 2000. The Firewire connection provides very easy installation, reliable performance and fast recording speeds. |
