MOTOROLA LICENSES YAMAHA ON M*CORE' RISC MICROPROCESSOR ARCHITECTURE

Worldwide Consumer Market Use Planned
TOKYO, JAPAN - March 28, 2000 -Motorola, Inc. today signed a full and comprehensive licensing agreement with Yamaha Corporation. for the M*COREÅEmicroprocessor architecture for use in any and all products Yamaha designs, manufacturers and sells worldwide. Representatives of both companies formalized the agreement during a press conference and signing ceremony today in Tokyo, Japan. The license reaches beyond the state-of-the-art, low-power M*CORE microprocessor architecture to include the Motorola intellectual property reuse specifications developed for System-on-Chip (SoC) design.

"We are excited about licensing the M-CORE architecture from Motorola," commented Hirokazu Kato, Director and General Manager, Semiconductor Division, Yamaha Corporation. "We intend to fully utilize the low power, small die size and high performance of the M-CORE architecture, todevelop competitive SoC solutions for musical instruments, audio and sound related products, game consoles and multimedia terminals. The market for mobile products is expanding rapidly, and we have aggressive plans to meet the user's needs by providing complete and flexible solutions based on the M-CORE architecture."

The combination of our technology and Yamaha's engineering prowess will enable new classes of products for consumers."

The license grants Yamaha the right to design and manufacture products based on the fully synthesizable M*CORE M210S microprocessor and to distribute them worldwide. Motorola will immediately begin transferringthe M210S core along with the M210 system integration modules, a standard peripheral set and the Intellectual Property Interface (IPI) specification. The IPI specification defines an interface for the design and verification of reusable SoC modules. A synthesizable core, such as the M210S, utilizes standard industry design tools to rapidly port the design to multiple process technologies and geometries.

Motorola is providing all the necessary elements for Yamaha engineers to take new designs rapidly from concept to integrated systems and to retarget those designs into multiple fab processes.

As part of the agreement, Yamaha will receive the M*CORE architecture reference platform consisting of:

* The M*CORE 210S RISC microprocessor, a fully synthesizable version of the 32-bit processor.
* The Motorola Semiconductor Reuse Standards (SRS) that are designed to allow the creation of architecture-independent peripherals for use in multiple designs such as those based on Motorola's core architectures
* M*CORE System Integration Modules.
* A library of reusable, industry standard peripheral modules.
