Research, Development & Design

Since 1959, when we established the Yamaha Technical Laboratories, Yamaha has been committed to extensive R&D operations in the quest of better sound. The results are evidenced in all our products -- and even in the creation of entirely new business areas.

In addition to Yamaha's product design operations, whose distinguished heritage is evidenced by several devices now part of the (New York) Museum of Modern Art's collection of outstanding industrial designs, Yamaha's R&D and design activities include:

Electronics Development:
Including semiconductors and integrated technologies related to musical instruments, data communication systems and acoustic research.

Music Software Research:
Development of software to support music education and multimedia applications.

Acoustic Research:
Consultative acoustical design for performance spaces, including world-renowned concert halls and the development of new interior materials and systems.

Musical Instrument Research:
R&D of innovative acoustic and electronic instruments via materials, acoustics, computer and network technologies.

Material & Device Research:
Development of hybrid materials for acoustics and sports products as well as intelligent key devices to handle multimedia environments.
